Avoiding Ghost Followers on Instagram

Instagram has more than 700M+ monthly active users. It is now the place where companies and personal brand are looking into grow and increase visibility.

Building your personal brand via Instagram platform is very important. People would like to know more about you, get to interact with you and sometimes try to share opinions direct to your Instagram page.

The question is how do you keep and increase your fan base or followers.

Sometimes it takes much of your time to balance your Instagram online activities and normal work. And most of the time when your account is not active it turns your real followers into ghost followers.

Ghost followers are users on social media platforms who do not engage in any activity. Here are some tips to increase followers, but avoid ghost followers.

Log in to your account often

Without regularly logging into your account often, you won’t be able to get an insight of how your account is performing.

Make sure at least you log in to your Instagram account three times a day.

Update your bio details and profile picture

Your first impression comes from your bio details and the display picture on your account. Put a short description of who you are, people would like to know who they follow and why they should follow you. Make sure it is simple and easy for people to understand.

Say if you’re a musician, writer, photographer, lawyer, or business entity. Put a short description of who you are, people would like to know who they follow and why they should follow you. Make sure it is simple and easy for people to understand.

Post things that related to you or your professionalism.

Since people have followed you because your bio says you’re a musician,  means they expect to see contents that related to your music career. It could be your shows, new song release, behind the scene photos and videos. Mind you they choose to follow you because there is something interest them from you.

Make sure to Put Caption for your post

Do not assume everyone will understand when you post a photo, other followers would like to know why did you post the video or picture and what is it about. Create a simple caption that relates to the post and sometimes you can create a question at the end depending on the post so your followers can start the conversation on your post.

Use hash tags

Let’s say you’re posting about your music show, you can use the hash tag like #MusicShow. If you use the hash tag for all your shows posted on Instagram, then your followers can easily go to all post related to a Music show.

Reply to their comments on your post

It might get you busy if you have thousands of comments on one post, but pick few comments and respond to them. Your followers feel more connected with you when they see that you actually read what they have commented on your post. And you will keep them coming to your daily posts because they know you care and value their time.

Follow other accounts

You gain more followers when you follow other accounts as well. If you follow active accounts, this will also increase engagement on your posts by those you have followed.

Don’t post too much

It can be annoying when you open Instagram and find twenty posts from one person in two hours. People will probably start unfollowing you. Post regularly, but don’t over do it.
