Roseville, Ca. – John Moore, president of JM ENVIRONMENTAL, INC., announced that JM ENVIRONMENTAL is one of the first licensed contractors to provide fire and contaminated debris clean up, and concrete demolition and removal to properties damaged or destroyed by the Butte County Camp Fire. California state officials have counted 14,700 properties that need to be cleaned. JM ENVIRONMENTAL, INC. already has crews working with property owners in Butte County to help with the massive cleanup.
The Butte County California Camp Fire was the worst fire in California history. The Camp Fire destroyed 18,804 buildings, leveling Paradise and surrounding towns. California’s Department of Forestry (CalFire) estimates the Camp Fire left millions of tons of contaminated debris. State disaster leaders expect it could be a year-long effort with initial costs estimated on the order of $3.5 billion.
Because of the magnitude of the devastation, property owners have been warned to expect delays in getting their properties cleaned and ready for rebuilding. JM ENVIRONMENTAL, INC. has crews ready to assist property owners by streamlining the cleanup process and site preparation even if they have opted into the Cal Recycle program. JM ENVIRONMENTAL, INC. can assist the property owners with the Opt Out process for Private Fire Debris Site Clean Up.
Cal Recycle Contractors are instructed to remove ash and debris and concrete as needed to achieve a clean soils test. JM ENVIRONMENTAL, INC. removes structural concrete above and below grade the Cal Recycle contractors may have left behind. Many of the residential and commercial sites have spread footings which go down three to five feet below grade as well as retaining walls holding twenty-four inches or greater of soil that is left behind. Many design engineers find the condition of structural concrete left on the property to be unsuitable for rebuilding and it must be removed to get building permits.
Estimators from JM ENVIRONMENTAL, INC. provide a detailed estimate to remove all fire debris including concrete retaining walls, spread footings, grade beams, stem walls, swimming pools; per the property owner’s engineer’s direction. Cal Recycle contractors do not remove all damaged structures; for example, they are told not to remove swimming pools which removal would be required for rebuilding permits. JM Environmental, Inc., crews, will identify, and cap all utilities with christy boxes, fluorescent markings, and do a final grading of the sites. Job sites are magnetically swept, and hand raked. Every site is left clean and clear of all debris. SWPPP approved erosion control is in place, using straw wattle, silt fence, and jute cloth covering over the final grade. The treatment meets or exceeds the requirements of the Butte County Building Department.
